Summary: Through my post as a research assistant with Anya Schiffrin whose work is focused on disinformation, I was invited to write a book review of Disinformation in the Global South ed. Herman Wasserman and Dani Madrid-Morales, which discusses disinformation through social media in the developing world. My review focused on how the book analyzes the systemic causes of disinformation, like how state control of the media has fostered mistrust in traditional institutions and pushed people to believe alternative sources.
